Potosi Police Capt. William ‘Mal’ chewing gum stole money from the ambulance area, the authorities said.
The federal prosecutor said Potosi police and his wife stole money from an ambulance and used the money to buy a variety of personal expenses such as gift cards, Def Leppard albums and lace panties from Walmart.
William Malgam, a captain of the Missouri Rural Police Department, is an administrative officer in the Washington County ambulance until he retires in February. His wife Charlena “Charli” Gum also works for this service.
Thirty or so years ago, this group was started by Mal Gum’s parents as a branch of their funeral home. Its headquarters is on the road to a late father named Potosi, a town of about 2,600 people about 70 miles southeast of St. Louis. Mal Gum became the first manager of the service in 1981 until retirement.
