Why Hooded Eyes Are Better Than Winged Eyeliner

Mastering the alate eyeliner is definitely a challenge. But for those with semi-closed eyes, eyeliner is just much harder. The eyeliner (or any type of eye makeup) gets a little tricky when you really can’t see the eyelid. As a close friend of mine with hooded eyes once lamented, “all my beautiful work mixing shadows and eye design is basically hidden whenever my eyes are open.” Of course, she still likes eye makeup because nothing will stop her from getting dolled up. Instead, like many others who also have semi-closed eyes, she changed her approach to doing hooded eye makeup.

Hooded eyes can range from slightly hooded to healy hooded, where almost the entire movable eyelid (the part of the eyelid that moves) is covered. In addition, semi-closed eyes can happen for various reasons, such as aging or tiredness. One of the hardest things to master is the eyeliner because, depending on how your eyes are covered, it can actually change the appearance of your face. If not done correctly, it has completely disappeared or may make it look like you have raccoon eyes. Nobody wants that!

So, to help my fellow eyeliner lovers, I’ve put together some of the best tips to make the eyeliner as covert as your eyes may be.

1. Find the perfect eyeliner!

The first best thing to do is to find the perfect eyeliner. Once you have a product that works best for you, it can speed up the makeup process and leave you looking flawless at the same time. When searching for the perfect eyeliner, keep in mind the look you want to get and how you’ll use it. For example, if you will apply it on the line of the eyelashes, a pencil may be your best bet.

2. Winged eyeliner for hooded eyes

If the crease of the eyelid is not visible when your eyes are open, you are likely to have hooded eyes.

Many people with semi-closed eyes are anxious about eye makeup, especially since most makeup tutorials only feature eyes where the crease is exposed. Don’t worry: it’s super easy to apply perfect handout on hooded eyes.

To make sure that the lining is not hidden by the eyelid, create the outer tip of the wing where the eyelid begins. Work your way inside by applying the product in fine strokes and extending as desired.

3. Focus on the outer corner

When thinking about using eyeliner, focus on the outer corner of the eyes. Wearing eyeliner or dark shadow will make your eyes look bigger and bigger, which helps with the hooded one. It will also help create the effect of having liner all over the lid, even if you have applied it only in the corner.

4. Apply the liner to the waterline

Unlike other forms of eyes, one of the challenges of the semi-closed eyes is the lack of space between the eyelids, which is visible when you open your eyes. A good way to save the cover is to apply the liner on the top floating line. For this technique, it’s best to use a pencil eyeliner because (and I’ve already experienced this) liquid eyeliner in your eye is a big mess!

5. Just line 1/2 to 1/3 of your eyelid

One of the problems with the semi-closed eye lining is that it seems that you no longer have the upper eyelid. A good way to avoid this problem is to start lining from the outer corner and carefully tapering inwards only about 1/3 to 1/2 of its lid. By doing this, you’re still giving yourself that top liner without looking like you’re losing a part of your eye.

This is also a great technique to use when trying to create a a-sided eyeliner look, as you can still create the wings without having to outline the entire eye.

6. Use gel eyeliner

Creating the perfect ass is really an art (which even I still have to perfect) and I praise all those who do it successfully without the help of some beauty ribbon. For this, many suggest the use of liquid eyeliner as it will give you the best control and elegant line. However, for those with hooded eyes, this can leave you with some unwanted black lines in places you didn’t expect if the product hasn’t dried up.

An equally good substitute for liquid liner is gel. Although it may take some getting used to, the gel will still give you the control you need to leave the perfect wing and won’t leave you with stripes on all eyelids. The gel will also last as long as the liquid eyeliner, so don’t worry about the need to touch up your makeup throughout the day!
